Fear and Biting

This weekend I planted carrot seedlings and baby spinach. I delegated the sorrel to the outskirts of Succulents Town then instantly forgot all about it. The unfortunately- named dill got its own big pot as compensation. The corn seedlings looked on as I tisked at the recently deposited dog poo (the size of which positively baffled me).  I remulched the flat garden bed and stared at the tomato plants for a while. The pumpkins pushed on gallantly despite my negligence and the basil brazenly glowed it's particular green.

I didn't stay too long out in the garden this time. The mosquitos were ravishing me like miniscule extras from Twilight and I needed to retreat before my skin turned into one giant itchy bite.

So with summer finally settling in and Armageddon surely not far away, I now fear the fast approaching locust plague, which, according to certain media sources, is descending upon Melbourne right this very minute and partial to anything with leaves. I wonder how many kids in this neighbourhood are short of a bit of pocket money and are handy with a tennis racquet.  Maybe I could just paint the cute ones green and hang a sign on their heads saying "Over here!"

Locusts. A plague of locusts.... I'll probably cry if they eat my little garden. Then what else, but throw myself to the mozzies...
